Prep for where you actually live
Generic checklists treat every household the same. These guides start from what tends to fail in your kind of place, then put the fixes in order.
City apartment
Small space, no generator, and a building that depends on electric pumps. Your plan looks different from the suburbs, and that's fine.
Suburbs
You have space, a garage and probably a car. Most suburban households are better positioned than they think, and less prepared than they assume.
Rural
Help is farther away and power comes back last. Rural prep is less about stockpiles and more about being able to keep basic systems running yourself.
Hurricane coast
You get days of warning, which is a gift. The households that do well use the first 24 hours of the forecast, not the last.
Wildfire country
Wildfire gives you minutes, not days. Everything about your plan should assume you are leaving fast, in smoke, possibly at night.
Earthquake country
No warning, and everything breaks at once. Earthquake prep is mostly done before the shaking: water stored, furniture strapped, shoes by the bed.
